BuyBacks - An alternative camper, campervan rental option for travel around Oz.  

The average duration of a campervan rental or motorhome hire period is about 18 days.  This time period naturally does fluctuate from rental to rental but the 18 days is, in our experience, an average length of a camper or campervan rental.

We often have people wanting to rent a camper or campervan for more than forty days, and we have had one couple rent for 120 days. In these instances a campervan rental can become quite expensive, though it is still cheaper than the other options available to travellers.

A fairly new option to campervan and motorhome rental is the BuyBack option or facility which is offered by CampersOZ and a few other smaller campervan rental companies.

The Buy Back is a clever way for someone who wants to travel  Australia in a Camper, campervan or motorhome but wants to undertake a trip over an extended period.

The Buy Back works quite simply in that an agreed purchase price is determined for the vehicle at the commencement of the traveller’s trip. Prior to their departure on the trip an agreed price is clearly stated as the Price that the company will purchase the vehicle back of this traveler at the completion of their travels.

An example may help to clarify the Buy Back Option.

A Ford Falcon Campa Car with camping equipment is wanted by two travellers for 100 days. The normal rental rate (discounted due to the extended time of the rental) period is $35.00 per day including Insurance. This equals a Total rental value of $3,500.00 including Insurance.

If they  (the travelers) chose a Buy Back Option they would purchase the car for an agreed value of $6,000.00 and the Buy Back price at the end of the rental may be set at $3,000.00. In this example the travellers have saved over $500.00 on the cost of using the vehicle for their holiday. That $500.00 could go towards fuel for the trip.

The Buy Back Price is a written Buy Back option and is based on a number of “conditions” which apply to the travelers when they return the vehicle back after their holiday. These conditions make sense as they focus on the car’s roadworthiness and safety aspects.-

• The tyres must be in good Order
• The engine must be serviced when due
• Any windscreen/window breakages must be repaired
• The Body work must be in the same condition as when the vehicle commenced the trip.

The above is a brief explanation of what the Buy Back Option is and how it basically works. Naturally there will be variations to the way this type of package is offered or costed but a BuyBack is well worth considering  if you are planning an extended travel holiday in Australia.
